Georgian higher education has gained a new partner in Asia. On 29 October 2026 Georgia's Ministry of Education, Science and Youth reported that a memorandum on higher education cooperation between Georgia and Singapore was signed in Tbilisi, at the second Tbilisi International Financial Summit.

What the memorandum sets up

According to the ministry, it is the first institutional exchange programme between Georgian and Singaporean higher education. The parties are Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU), the digital assets company Tether, Pave Bank and the Singapore-based non-profit Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN).

  • One semester abroad: TSU students from business and STEM fields can spend a semester at Singapore Management University, with learning activities designed for the programme.
  • Scholarships: the places are funded by the private sector; GFTN names Pave Bank and Tether as the funders.
  • Internships: students who complete the semester may be offered internships with the partner organisations.

When it starts

The ministry says the programme begins next year. GFTN, which announced the scholars programme in July, gives January 2027 as the start of the semester and says the programme is planned to run over five years. Neither source gives the number of places.

Deputy Minister Zviad Gabisonia, who spoke at the signing, underlined deeper international academic cooperation and the training of specialists in financial technology.

Why it matters

The memorandum adds to a series of agreements Georgia has signed this autumn, including one with Türkiye's Council of Higher Education. For students weighing Georgia as a study destination, these links show its universities building ties well beyond Europe, with business, finance and technology among the fields in focus.
