Good news for everyone studying in Georgia: the European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education (EQAR) has restored the registration of Georgia's National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement (NCEQE), the agency that authorises universities and accredits study programmes.
What happened
EQAR's Register Committee took the decision on 22 September 2026, based on an evaluation by the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA). ENQA's experts reviewed the changes Georgia made to its quality-assurance system in 2024–2025. According to the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth, the committee found that NCEQE and Georgia's mechanisms fully comply with the European Standards and Guidelines (ESG 2015).
The register lists NCEQE as registered since 2019, with a rejection decision in November 2024 and the renewal on 22 September 2026, valid until 30 April 2029.
Why it matters
Georgia Today recalls that the agency was removed from the register at the end of 2024, when experts warned this could hurt international cooperation and the recognition of qualifications. Being back on EQAR shows that the body checking Georgian universities works to European standards, which supports trust in Georgian degrees abroad.
For international students
Choosing an authorised university with accredited programmes remains the most important step. The restored registration adds a European stamp to that national system.
